A Brief Overview
Recovering Couples Anonymous (RCA) is a non-profit Twelve-Step organization founded in 1988.
Our primary purpose is to help couples find freedom from dysfunctional and destructive patterns in their relationships and to build healthy communication, caring, and intimacy.
The RCA program is based on the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).
Although there is no organizational affiliation with Alcoholics Anonymous, we adapted the RCA Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, and Twelve Concepts of Service from A.A.
Our fellowship is open to any couple and the only requirement for membership is the desire to remain committed to each other and to work to develop new intimacy.
Compatibility with Therapy
RCA meetings do not seek to replace a couple’s sessions with their counselor any more than AA meetings would interfere with an individual’s therapy.
Rather, RCA can augment marital counseling or individual therapy.
This program is offered to couples that may be experiencing difficulties and want to restore their relationship.
RCA Tools and Meetings
An important RCA tool is attending recovery meetings. We attend RCA meetings to learn how the program works and to share our experience, strength, and hope with other couples. We learn that our struggles are not unique, and we gain the hope and assurance that our own coupleships can recover and grow.
By using the tools of the program, couples learn to take responsibility for the well-being of their relationship, finding joy with each other again.
